Description
This is a Rolleiflex Automat Type 1"This is the only 3.5 Rolleiflex with the double bayonets on the taking lens only, no red window, and no safety catch on the shutter release." - Arthur Evans "Collectors Guide to Rollei Cameras"
Approximately 20,000 of these cameras were produced, with the safety lock being added very shortly after the production run began, so this is one of the rarest Rolleiflex Automat cameras ever made.
Note the exposure plate on the rear of the camera, which is in French. The camera also includes a case, as can be seen in the photos, and this too has French writing on it.
Also note the tripod socket is European, and not the normal US size. It will require an adapter to use with a modern tripod.
The shutter speeds all work, after some exercise. To use this camera it would be wise to have it overhauled, as the shutter is untested and speeds may vary.
The taking lens appears clear but as this camera is 85
years old, there may be some dust or haze.
Also, the reflex mirror in the back of the viewfinder hood is missing, which does not affect normal operation as the main viewing mirror is still in good condition, though the missing reflex hood mirror prevents the camera from being used up at eye level (which I've never once used on any Rolleiflex).
Please see all photos for condition, and ask any and all questions before purchase.
