    Description

Vintage 1937 German VOIGTLANDER BRILLIANT V6 Camera With Case & Original Manual
. This is a rare find with a few wonderful extras. This handsome vintage
    Voigtländer
Brillant box camera dates back to 1937 and comes with a period leather case, original
    Voigtländer
instructions and a pamphlet from the Brooklyn store where it was likely purchased.
The Voigtländer Brillant was a series of pseudo Two Lense Reflex
    cameras
and true TLR cameras taking 6x6 cm exposures on roll 120 film. It was made by Voigtländer & Sohn AG, Braunschweig, Germany and produced
    between 1932-1951
. This camera's lens is made of metal, not bakelite, meaning it was one of the earliest models.  This 1937 V6
model used zone focusing and had no distance scale, so there are three markings:
    Portrait
    ,
    Group
    and
    Landscape (
    Porträt, Gruppe and Landschaft).
A small table with the right distances is provided in the camera's manual.
This camera is in wonderful vintage condition. There is only minor paint wear in just a few spots. There are no dents and if there are dings, I'm not seeing them. The wrap is completely intact and is starting to buckle, and very slightly at that, in just two small areas on the sides. All the knobs are intact. The lenses appear clean and without scratches or spotting. The shutter opens and the two other dials move freely.
The camera comes with a leather case from the period, but I don't believe it to be a
Voigtländer Brillant case because it doesn't have branding. The case shows wear and aging, yet its
straps is surprisingly intact. It comes with the original
Voigtländer printed instructions manual, a gatefold pamphlet with three panels on each side. The manual is in Very Fine condition, with typical folds and minor handling and soiling for something from eight decades ago.
The camera and instructions were in the case, untouched, for decades in a relative's house. Also in the case was a green pamphlet that's a guide to shooting with a Kodak Verichrome, which also came out in the 1930s. I'm guessing this guide was picked up in the store by the
    Voigtländer Brillant
buyer. The store was Potter's Photographic Supplies, part of
    something
    called
    Hamas
Stores, located at 2484 Flatbush Ave., Brooklyn, N.Y.  So, a nice bit of background to a great piece of history.
I'm not a camera expert, but I've done my best to photograph and describe this
Voigtländer Brilliant V6. The camera is untested, so it's being sold as-is.  A great find for photo buffs.
Camera measures: 4.5" tall by 3.5" wide by 3" deep.
